Tutorial

To support students' learning, Segerstrom has a Tutorial period twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tutorial is a 35 minute period during the school day where students choose one of their classes to attend. All students attend a class during Tutorial and attendance is taken. During tutorial, teachers can provide focused support, test or lab makeups, study time or reteaching of skills or concepts. Through tutorials, students are able to access tutoring during the school day, rather than before or after school or during their lunch, providing more time for extracurriculars, such as sports or clubs, and family.

How to sign up for Tutorials

Students are able to sign up for Tutorial through the Minga app or website. Tutorial classes open up one week at a time, usually on Thursday afternoon, and can sign up for a class until 8:00 pm the night before. Once in Minga, choose "My Tools", then "FlexTime". Here you can see what days are open and if you are signed up for a class or not. Students are able to change the class they signed up for until 8:00 pm the night before (unless maditorialed by their teacher). Students can only sign up for classes that are in their schedule.

If you get an "Error code 16" while trying to sign up, the class is full and you must pick another class for the day.

What class should you pick?

Students are able to sign up for any of their classes for Tutorial, but should prioritize classes where they need assistance or need to make something up. Below are some guiding questions students can ask themselves when picking a class:

  • Do I need to make up a test, lab, or other assignment?
  • Is there a class that I have a "D" or "F" in?
  • Is there a class with a test coming up?
  • Did I not understand a concept, or was I absent for a class?
  • Is there a class where I am this close to going up a letter grade in?

Students who do not have answers to the questions above often pick classes where they have essays, projects, or tough homework due soon. They are able to work on their assignments and if they need help or clarification, their teacher is right there. If a student ever feels like they are having issues picking a class, they can talk to their teacher or counselor to assist in making a good decision.
