Expectations
Academic Honesty
Plagiarizing and cheating are grounds for immediate dismissal at colleges and universities and are considered serious infractions at Segerstrom. Students who help others cheat or plagiarize are held to the same disciplinary process. In each case, the teacher will notify parents, and a
referral form will be sent to Administration.
| Academic honesty is... | Cheating/Plagiarism is... |
|---|---|
| Using the internet and other library materials for insight and research. Rewording and rephrasing facts with proper documentation. | Copying word-for-word phrases or sentences from any source (including the internet). Not documenting information taken from sources. |
| Working together and discussing an assignment with classmates to develop ideas while still writing papers and completing assignments independently. | Copying portions of a classmate's assignment or knowingly providing other students with material that can assist them in cheating. |
| Studying for the test with notes. Sharing ideas and notes on the material with classmates in preparation for the quiz/test. |
Using any type of aid during a test that is not allowed including phones, the internet, cheat sheets, notes, talking, wandering eyes, etc. |
| Saying, "I do not know what is on the test" or "I'm not sharing test information." | Sharing what is on a test or quiz students have taken with students who still have to take it. |
| Having students' parent/guarding sign school paperwork. | Students signing papers in their parent's name. |
| Using AI to brainstorm ideas or topics. If using AI, students should always check facts and sources rather than take them as face value. | Using AI programs to write essays or do assignments and turning the work in as their own. |
As AI programs become more popular, district and school policies may change in regards to academic honesty. As for now, if students use AI as a research or brainstorming tool, they should do so cautiously, making sure to check facts, sources, and quotes for accuracy and bias.
Dress Code
Policy in alignment with District Dress and Grooming Guidelines
Segerstrom believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. Students’ clothing must not present a health or safety hazard or a distraction, which would interfere with the educational process. If a student is in violation of the dress code, students will be sent to Student Services to correct the violation, document in Aeries, and assign any consequences. All violations will be required to change into loaner school clothing. Repeated violations will result in detention and/or Saturday School.
All apparel items and belongings that reference drugs, alcohol, weapons, nudity or inappropriate language will be confiscated and must be picked up by a parent at the end of the school day.
In addition to SAUSD's District Dress Code, Segerstrom's dress code includes the following:
- Only school logo hats and beanies are allowed on campus.
- Only brands that DO NOT reference drugs or alcohol are allowed on campus.
- Clothing must be accurate size, not baggy, under or oversized and no sagging.
- Socks cannot be pulled up to meet the bottom of the shorts.
- Only school team logos are allowed on campus.
- Tops must meet the top of the pants at all times. Undergarments cannot be visible. No tube, halter, low cut or revealing tops.
- Shorts and skirts must be at least mid-thigh. Rips in jeans or shorts above mid thigh area are not allowed.
- All sandals must have a back strap for safety reasons. Crocs are acceptable, but the back strap must be worn.
If you have any questions, please contact Student Support.
Technology
While technology is a part of everyday life, misuse of technology can disrupt classroom learning. Segerstrom expects all students to use technology appropriately and follow the guidelines below.Policy in alignment with the Board Pupil use of Technology Policy 6163.4
- All phones and other devices should be stored away during class time.
- Teachers will explicitly state (or use appropriate signage), when phones and other devices can be out and used.
- Students must turn-in their cell-phones to teachers prior to leaving the room during class. They will be given their phones upon return.
- When technology is being misused by students, the teacher will confiscate said technology, labeling the device with the students’ name and ID number. At the end of the school day, teachers will immediately turn confiscated technology into Student Services.
- Parents must come to Student Services to pick up confiscated phones and devices at the end of the day, no exceptions.
- If technology is not currently allowed in class, digital hall passes will be created by the teacher, or a class device should be available for students to quickly create a pass.
Segerstrom would like to remind students and parents that personal technology brought to school is the responsibility of the student to keep track of and care for. It is highly discouraged to bring personal laptops/tablets to school due to the cost of these items. Additionally, personal devices cannot be connected to the same wifi as school devices. School devices automatically connect to school wifi through magic district enrollment software, rather than a password.
Outside Items
Outside Food
Policy is aligned with the Board Student Wellness Policy AR 5030
In efforts to promote healthy food habits and to mitigate school disruption, Segerstrom has instituted the following food policy in relation to outside food. In alignment with our district's Student Wellness and Safety Policy and in consideration of student dietary restrictions, the following policy is in place.
- Fast food/restaurant food is prohibited on campus during school hours. This does not include home made food.
- Students are not allowed to have restaurant/fast food delivered to them via any food delivery service or dropped off to them by a parent or guardian.
- Students are prohibited from leaving campus at any time during the school day, even to get food.
Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action. Any outside food will be brought to the front office to be retrieved at the end of the day.
Forgotten Items
To reduce interruptions during the school day, we ask that any items, such as homework or athletic equipment, a student has forgotten at home be delivered to the main office. If an item is dropped off, it will be available in the main office for the student to pick up during their own time, such as lunch or after school. Office staff will not contact students about items dropped off as to not interrupt class instruction.
