WASC Report

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is the accrediting association for schools in California. WASC advances and validates quality ongoing school improvement by supporting public schools to engage in a rigorous and relevant self-evaluation and peer review process that focuses on equity, inclusion, and access to high-level, rigorous learning opportunities for all students. It provides a process for regularly examining programs, processes, and data around school goals and student learning through data analysis, reflection, inquiry, and dialogue.1 Along with our Vision and Mission, and Student Learning Outcomes, Segerstrom uses it's WASC goals to guide school programs and education to make sure Segerstrom provides the best education for our students.

WASC Cycle

The WASC cycle spans 6 years, with major milestones being the self study, mid-cycle report and visit, progress report, and then back to self study. Segerstrom just ended our mid-cycle report. For more information, please view our Mid-Cycle Report 2024-2025.

Mid-Cycle 2024-2025 Report

WASC Goals

  1. College and Career Readiness: Increase College and Career Readiness (as measured by CCI) with the goal of improved student outcomes particularly in the area of CTE pathway and A-G completion, for all students, including Special Education students and English Language Learners.
  2. English Learners: Data indicates that English Learners are not achieving at the rate of their peers. Both designated and integrated ELD programs should be analyzed for areas of growth.
  3. Special Education: The full inclusion model is not meeting diverse needs of all Special Education students at Segerstrom. There is a need to expand to different models and instructional support to improve student achievement.
  4. Professional Learning Communities: Reestablish clearly-defined, cohesive Professional Learning Communities for all teaching staff to include standardized training, common expectations, and a plan-do-study-act cycle.
  5. Professional Development: There is a need for more focused, targeted, site-based professional development to refocus on student-centered instructional strategies centered on Common Core State Standards.
  6. Multi-tiered systems of support and Socio-emotional Learning: There is a need to develop a more thorough understanding of implementation of MTSS and SEL at SFHS.
