AVID

The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program at Segerstrom High School prepares students for success in college, career, and life by building strong academic skills, confidence, and leadership. AVID fosters a family-like environment where students grow together over the years, support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and continually motivate one another to achieve their goals. This program is designed for students who are motivated to attend college and are willing to challenge themselves academically. Through focused support in writing, inquiry, collaboration, and organization, AVID helps students develop the habits they need to thrive in rigorous courses at the high school level and in college. Students receive twice-weekly tutoring from trained college tutors, along with personalized guidance through the college application and financial aid process. Each year, AVID students also participate in field trips to college campuses, giving them firsthand exposure to higher education and future opportunities. AVID empowers motivated students to set high goals and provides the support system to help them reach them.
